Sequent is now Resolution
We're changing our name: Sequent is now Resolution.
Two weeks ago, we launched as Sequent — a new alignment research organization pursuing a portfolio of ASI safety bets. Our founding announcement describes what we're building and why.
After that launch, we discovered sequent.inc, a formal verification startup that had gone public only about a month earlier — and by a friend and former colleague, no less.
After discussing it with the other Sequent, we decided the best course of action was to change our name. That brings us to Resolution.
We're excited for what they're going to do with formal verification — go check out sequent.inc. We've launched a new website, posted new positions, and opened our first hiring round: see our open roles.
Why Resolution?
In first-order logic, resolution is a foundational method for generating proofs — the resolution algorithm.
In algebraic geometry, resolution of singularities is a technique for reparameterizing a singular variety to remove its singularities — a metaphor, perhaps, for the AI singularity.
